Apple releases Mac OS X 10.8.1 Update

Web news sites are filled with announcements of the release of Mac OS X 10.8.1, the first minor update since the new version of Mac OS X was released a few weeks ago. You can manually receive the updates using the Software Update Control Panel on your Mac or you might be prompted for the update automatically. A restart us required after installation. Update include: • Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit • Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail • Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display • Resolve an issue that prevents iMessages from being sent • Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names • Address an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input Here are a few links from the around the web with further information: You Can Grab Apple's First Mountain Lion Update Right Now (Updated) [Os X] ...10.8.1), and it's rumored to fix that pr

An "Internet of Things" starts with temp/motion sensors like these Wireless Sensor Tags from Cao Gadgets

Imagine an " Internet of Things " where even the smallest device could store and report information about itself or whatever it is attache to. These Wireless Sensor Tags are a big step in that direction. These small devices can be attached to doors, windows, mailboxes, keys..almost anything actually…and then report back to you -- via web, smartphone, SMS, etc -- whenever they are moved or whenever temperatures exceed programmed minimums. For myself, I could see putting one of these in my mailbox so I could tell when the mail had arrived or placing one on the garden gate so I would know when the meter readers (or others) had entered my back yard. You can probably come up with a hundred different uses for these devices and the web site has a host of ideas (and video demonstrations) to get you started. You can also use the Wireless Sensor Tag to let you know where something is in your home -- like the TV remote, keys or whatever else you have a habit of misplacing. You can use

Troubleshooting: HP SimplePass/Authentec TrueSuite AutoComplete/AutoFill problems

I faced an odd problem with a client today and wanted to document it here in case any of my fellow tech support peers runs into the problem with one of their clients. Configuration:  HP Desktop PC, Internet Explorer, HP SimplePass software by Authentec Symptoms : Internet Explorer continues to AutoComplete/AutoFill a username password on specific web pages even after AutoComplete has been disabled. In this specific case, the username/password for a given web site was auto-completed and enter was pressed to attempt an Auto Login. Since the username/password pair was incorrect, it resulted in several login errors which quickly activated the lockout of the account. Solution : After searching for additional web toolbars and Add-Ons that might be trying to store and autofill login information, I happened upon mention of the Authentec TrueSuite plugin listed as an Add-On in Internet Explorer. The disable option was unavailable on this Add-On. Searching the Windows Installed Programs list s

App: Hallo - Video demo from Techzulu.com

I saw this video pop up in my YouTube feed today and decided to check it out. I could see Hallo being useful for realtime coordination of small groups, sort of like a asynchronous walkie-talkie or simply as a way to keep a group of people informed with quick audio notes. See how it works in this short video from Efren Toscano from TechZulu.com. You can find more tech info on TechZulu.com
